P-FAS and collagen from Copenhagen Health
Collagen is not in the risk group with regard to P-FAS.
The Norwegian Food and Environmental Protection Agency continuously measures and assesses the content of P-FAS substances in fish and cattle. This applies to both wild-caught and farmed fish and cattle. This keeps them updated on whether the concentrations exceed the established limit values – This is not the case.
The collagen we use at Copenhagen Health is extracted exclusively from the skin of fish and cattle, which is a big difference between using bones and bones, etc.
All of our productions are tested for more than 100 heavy metals and other substances. This is a legal requirement and a standard process for manufacturers when selling products to consumers.
Copenhagen Health also has a cleaning process and other elements in production. This ensures the high quality of the final product for you as the consumer.
What is the difference between bovine collagen powder and marine collagen powder?
The quickest way to explain the difference is...
The primary difference between marine collagen and bovine collagen lies in their sources. Our marine collagen consists of 100% bioactive collagen peptides, which are extracted from fish skin, while our bovine collagen is extracted from cattle. Both types of collagen are of the highest quality, pure and hydrolyzed collagen peptides suitable for daily consumption.
Beyond the difference in source, there are also some additional parameters that distinguish them:
Taste:
Our collagen products have a neutral taste. However, it should be noted that taste is individual. If you want a completely taste-neutral collagen powder, you should choose our Verisol Collagen Pro Edition.
We will soon offer delicious flavor drops that can be added to a glass of water with collagen powder.
Amino acid profile:
Starting this fall, you will be able to see the individual amino acid profile for each product when you shop with us. This will allow you to get a better understanding of which amino acids are found in each collagen product.
Collagen types:
Marine collagen consists exclusively of type 1 collagen, which is the most common type of collagen in our skin. Bovine collagen typically contains 90% type 1 collagen and 10% type 3 collagen.
It is worth noting that marine collagen actually contains more of the type of collagen that is most commonly found in our own skin, making marine collagen a popular choice for those looking to strengthen and improve their skin in particular.
Whether you choose marine or bovine collagen, both types will help improve skin elasticity, reducing wrinkles and fine lines.
It is important to choose the type of collagen that best suits your needs and preferences. By including collagen in your daily routine, you can experience more glow on your face, reduction of holes, wrinkles and fine lines, as well as many other benefits.

General questions about collagen
What is collagen?
Collagen is a protein that is a natural part of our body and skin.
The building block of the body
Collagen is a protein that is naturally produced in the body of both humans and animals. It is a crucial building block for the body's cartilage, tendons and bones, ensuring that we can maintain good stature and functionality.
There are over 28 different collagen types in the human body.
The most common, however, is type 1, which makes up 80-90% of the collagen in the skin.
Young skin can contain up to 80% collagen, but from the age of 25, research shows that collagen levels fall by 1-2% per year.
To maintain a higher collagen level, it is therefore beneficial to consume collagen via daily oral intake.
Collagen – “The body’s glue”
Collagen can be described as “the body’s glue” and is formed, among other things, in skin cells. The skin consists of three layers.
It is the skin cells that ensure that the collagen formed in the connective tissue maintains the elasticity of the skin and preserves the strength of the skin, like when we are young.
For this reason, collagen is one of the most important factors in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the skin, helping to create more supple and elastic skin without deep holes, known as “wrinkles”.
Layers of the skin
The middle layer of skin is called the dermis. It is the thickest layer and ensures that the top layer (epidermis) remains smooth and even.
The dermis layer consists of approximately 90% collagen. The rest consists primarily of elastin and fibrillin, which also help the skin stay elastic.
What is collagen good for?
By consuming collagen daily, the body is supplied with the amount of collagen it needs.
We humans lose approximately 1-2% of our natural collagen annually from the age of 25. This decrease in collagen levels makes the skin more lax, and over time will cause wrinkles and lines.
By consuming collagen daily, the body is supplied with the amount of collagen it needs to, for example, fill in lines and build up the skin's elasticity and fullness we had when we were younger.
In both our marine collagen and bovine collagen, there are 100% pure and hydrolyzed bioactive peptides (small chains of amino acids).
The peptides make it easy to penetrate the body and thus have an active effect on the skin's elasticity and firmness. This occurs via the bloodstream and the intestines when collagen is taken orally, for example by mixing the collagen powder in water and drinking it daily.
Does collagen have a documented effect?
More than 180 international scientific studies have been conducted, supporting the beneficial properties of collagen.
At Copenhagen Health, we have clinical and dermatological studies on the properties and effects of the collagen we use in our products.
We make sure that we are always up to date with what is happening in the collagen market, so that we can deliver the best products of the highest quality at a fair price and with a proven effect.
Copenhagen Health also has a test panel that continuously tests products and shares their experiences.
Please note that as humans we are different and thus collagen absorption can also vary from person to person and most importantly, be patient.
Collagen is not a quick fix, and good results usually come from long-term intake.
Sleep and water are important parameters when it comes to our skin in particular.
Is collagen a quick fix?
No, collagen is not a quick fix.
The results of taking collagen daily over a longer period of time most often come with long-term intake.
We recommend that you be patient while the collagen from Copenhagen Health is absorbed into the body.
Collagen is a dietary supplement whose effect is promoted by a nutritious and varied diet, a good night's sleep and plenty of water.
Most people experience first noticeable results with the collagen within 8 weeks. After 8-12 months, full benefits are often experienced. This result must be maintained daily, so as not to return to the starting point.
It's a good idea to make daily collagen intake a habit. An example is starting your morning with a glass of water and sprinkling the collagen in or over your breakfast.
Since the collagen from Copenhagen Health is taste-neutral, we hope that customers can easily implement a daily intake of the product into already existing eating habits.
The best conditions for taking collagen are in connection with or after a meal – but this is not the most important thing.
Can I take too much collagen?
No. Collagen is a natural protein and is actually the most abundant protein in the body.
The body is therefore already made up of collagen, so collagen supplements can strengthen the body's own reconstruction of collagen.
Copenhagen Health adds functional ingredients, vitamins and minerals to some of its collagen products. Therefore, you should always follow the instructions provided on the packaging of the product in question.
You are also welcome to contact us by email or phone if you have any questions about use or intake for your specific needs or wishes.
What does it mean that collagen is hydrolyzed?
'Hydrolyzed' means that the collagen protein has been broken down into smaller amino acid chains via a process called hydrolyzation.
This means that the protein has become shorter so that it can be easily absorbed by the body.
Collagen that is not hydrolyzed cannot be absorbed to the same extent in, for example, the bloodstream, but only in the intestines and will therefore not have an effect on the skin.
The scale for this is called atomic and is called either: Da or kDa.
- Da = Dalton value (e.g. 2000)
- KdA = Kilodalton (e.g. 2.0)
It is an advantage that the value is as low as possible to make it easier to absorb into the body.
All Copenhagen Health products have a lowest Da from 500 – 2000, so you have the best conditions for a good result.
How long can you take collagen?
There is no time horizon…
...you can benefit from taking collagen from the age of 25 or whenever you think you could use supplements.
Collagen is naturally produced in the body and is a fundamental building block for the body's bones, cartilage and tendons. That's why we have added vitamin C to our collagen powder products, as the vitamin contributes to the normal formation of collagen.
Can you get vegan collagen?
Collagen is an animal protein and therefore cannot be obtained in a vegan version.
Research is underway at an early stage to find a source of collagen in the plant kingdom, but nothing has yet been found that could constitute an animal source, equivalent to the body's own collagen.
Marine collagen and bovine collagen powder from Copenhagen Health are taste-neutral, and can therefore be easily incorporated into your daily diet. For example, it can be mixed into drinks or sprinkled over breakfast or as a snack, e.g. a smoothie.
Can I take collagen while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes. You can safely consume collagen during both pregnancy and breastfeeding.
You can safely consume collagen both during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Our products are free of additives.
By helping the skin's elasticity, it is beneficial to consume collagen before - during - after pregnancy, to help your skin optimally during a period where it is challenged and pressured to the maximum.
Our marine and bovine collagen sources contain 100% pure collagen and, not least, vitamin C.
If you are in doubt about what applies to your specific situation, we recommend that you contact your own doctor for advice and guidance, otherwise we are ready to help you.
Sources of collagen
There are four collagen sources:
-
Fish (marine)
Used primarily in the West and is the most expensive collagen source - Cattle/cattle (bovine)
Bovine collagen is the most common source, as the price is cheaper than fish/marine collagen. - Pig
Used primarily in Asia - Chicken
Used primarily in Asia
What are Da and kDa?
What is Collagen DA & KdA?
- Dat is an abbreviation of Dalton
- kDa is an abbreviation for Kilodalton.
Both are a mass term used in physics to calculate in atomic size.
In principle, this means that the smaller the collagen peptides are, the easier it is for them to be absorbed into our blood and intestines, allowing them to have an effect on the skin structure and body functions where the collagen is used.
Copenhagen Health's collagen products have a DA/kDa of approx. 2000 Da or 2.0 kDa.
This size ensures the body and skin have the best conditions for absorption.
Every body is different, so results will vary from person to person, so we recommend being patient to see results.
Collagen is not a quick fix, and the good results come with daily intake and if intake is stopped, the body simply goes back to where it started.
